The game is set in the year 1209, when Calvard is enjoying peace after dealing with Almata. However the murder of a special CID unit leads to new criminal activity. Van starts investigating prompted by a mysterious visitor. So as he searches for answers he uncovers deeper connections to the past.

In the game features a battle system that builds on the mechanics of its predecessor with new combo moves called Cross Charge and EX Chains. Many can be used to deal powerful attacks on enemies. The game also lets players option which chapters to play in any order offering different perspectives from the characters’ sides of the story.

Characters like Van Arkride, Agnès Claudel, and Elaine Auclair all play key roles in the story. Van a lover of sweets and saunas has a complicated past but works to uncover the truth.
