Overview Inspector Schmidt
In this game you step into a world full of lies, secrets and strange happenings after a mysterious death. You’ll try to figure out where creepy telegraph signals are coming from, ask the villagers questions, and try to understand the weird symbols that keep showing up all over the town. But while doing all this, you also need to stay safe because something dangerous is hiding in the nearby moor. You may also like to download Love, Elections, and Chocolate.
Everything begins when Bente Hansen dies suddenly in the peaceful seaside town of Havstedt. In this shocks everyone, and people start panicking. Who could’ve killed him. What is the truth behind the strange signs around town? And is there really some kind of wild creature hiding in the moor? So you’ll need to dig through lies and uncover dark secrets, but you also need to stay out of trouble while doing it.
So you’ll get to explore the town freely and look for clues. There are deep conversations where you’ll ask locals questions and try to catch anyone who might be lying. Moreover you can confront suspects, solve puzzles, sneak into off-limit places, and use your brain to crack the case. So your character can level up, collect resources, craft items, and unlock new skills. The choices you make will change how the story goes, so you can solve the case in your own style – maybe by using charm, smart talk, or other clever ways.
The story is set in the year 1870, just as the first working transatlantic telegraph cable connects the USA and Germany. It is a time of big changes with factories growing, new ideas spreading, and wars starting. The main character, Valentin Schmidt, only wanted a peaceful holiday by the sea. But when he arrives in Havstedt, things take a dark turn. Bente Hansen is found dead and Valentin finds himself in the middle of a dangerous mystery. Every group in the town seems to be hiding something, and soon he realizes this is more than just one murder.
This game, The Ebbing, has more detective work compared to the older game A Bavarian Tale. You now get a “Detective Sweep” to make sure you don’t miss any clues. You’ll also face tricky number and combination puzzles and your brain will be just as important as your people skills. The sneaking system is better now too, and some exciting quests are built around it.
So you can play the game the way you best. In story mode, the quest log gives you more hints to help you follow the case easily. So you can even turn off dice skill checks if you just want to enjoy the story. But if you like a challenge, detective mode gives you fewer hints and makes you write down everything yourself.
